1769/75 Short Land Pattern (2nd Model) Brown Bess

History:

Noting the advantages of reduced length, in 1769 the British approved the production of a new, shorter Land Pattern Musket. Barrel length was reduced from 46 to 42 inches and an improved trumpet shaped ramrod pipe was incorporated. In 1775, the design was further refined to include a flat sideplate. This improved weapon has come to be known as the 1769/75 Short Land Pattern (2nd Model) Brown Bess. The 1769/75 Bess was produced in large numbers to meet the demands of the British Army for weapons during the American Revolution and saw widespread use.
