Product Description

1840 US NCO Sword

The 1840 US NCO Sword replaced the Model 1832 US Foot Artillery Sword which had been worn not only by artillerymen but also by US Infantry sergeants from 1832 until 1840. As with so many American swords and sabers during this period, the 1840 US NCO Sword was a copy of a contemporary French design.

The 1840 US NCO Sword was worn by infantry sergeants during the Mexican War and Civil War. A variant of the sword with a slightly shorter blade was carried by musicians. Some variation exists between examples and they were produced with both leather and metal scabbards.

The weapon has had a long service life, and is still approved for wear by US Army platoon sergeants and first sergeants. They are also worn by the United States 3rd Infantry Regiment “Old Guards” and other honor guards.
