Product Description

1832 US Foot Artillery Sword

The 1832 US Foot Artillery Sword was copied almost directly from the French Model 1816 Artillery Sword, which itself was inspired by the Roman Gladius. The 1832 US Foot Artillery Sword saw service with US troops during the Seminole War and Mexican War. In addition to artillerymen, they were occasionally carried by musicians and infantry sergeants.

During the Civil War they were utilized by both US and CS forces, although they were found to be more suitable for cutting brush than for actual fighting. The Confederacy even produced copies of their own.
