Product Description

1845 Wilkinson Light Cavalry Saber

In response to complaints about the performance of the pipe-backed 1822 Pattern Light Cavalry Saber, British sword maker Henry Wilkinson changed the length and shape of the blade to make it more effective. His design was supposed to remedy deficiencies in strength especially when thrusting against enemies wearing especially thick clothing. Wilkinsonís blade was heavier, less flexible, and capable of enthusiastic chopping and thrusting with less breakage. His design was authorized for use in 1845 and would remain the standard until 1912.
